Is Milk Aid by Herbal Medi Care safe?

Milk Aid by Herbal Medi Care is an herbal remedy, which means that it’s a non-FDA approved supplement. However, Milk Aid by Herbal Medi Care contains four herbs that have been taken for generations and, when taken as directed, should not have adverse effects on you or your baby. Remember, it’s always important to consult with your doctor before taking Milk Aid by Herbal Medi Care or any other drug.

What’s in Milk Aid by Herbal Medi Care?

Milk Aid by Herbal Medi Care contains fenugreek seed, caraway seed, fennel seed, and anise seed.

Fenugreek, one of the most common galactagogues used today, normally causes fast results for nursing mothers, although it’s important for moms to know that diabetics should not take fenugreek since it can affect blood sugar levels.

Caraway seed can help you produce more breast milk, but it is also frequently used to treat upset stomachs, including colic. Since your baby is getting his or her nutrients from your breast milk, caraway can help prevent or treat your baby’s colic. A happy, healthy baby is much easier to nurse, so keep the colic away!

Fennel seed, although not actually a galactagogue, does help your body’s “letdown” reflex, making it that much easier to nurse (or to use a breast pump).

Lastly, anise seed, a seasoning AND a medicinal herb, contains plant estrogens that some researchers believe can help stimulate your milk production.

Does Milk Aid by Herbal Medi Care contain the best ingredients?

All of the ingredients in Milk Aid by Herbal Medi Care are certified organic and vegetarian. Milk Aid by Herbal Medi Care is non-irradiated, additive free, and chemical free.

How much is Milk Aid by Herbal Medi Care?

One bottle of 90 pills is $18.95. It’s important to remember that a daily dose may be up to 9 capsules a day, which means that one bottle would only last you 10 days.

Overall rating of Milk Aid by Herbal Medi Care

Milk Aid by Herbal Medi Care gets a pretty high rating from me, although I would have liked to see a larger selection of herbs. Since everyone responds to herbs differently, it’s so important for a breast milk enhancement product to include a variety of herbs. Additionally, many herbs actually work better when taken in tandem. Fenugreek seed, caraway seed, fennel seed, and anise seed are all great herbs, but I would have liked to have seen more variety.

I thoroughly appreciate the fact that Milk Aid by Herbal Medi Care is an organic and vegetarian product. There are so many drugs that contain unnecessary chemicals that it’s nice to see a company that is invested in quality.

Overall, Milk Aid by Herbal Medi Care is a pretty good product, although I think the daily dosage of nine pills a day is a few too many pills to be taking in one day. With the addition of more herbs and a smaller dosage, I would feel better about recommending Milk Aid by Herbal Medi Care.

Is Lactiful safe?

Lactiful is a product meant to be taken by breastfeeding moms who would like to increase their breast milk production. Lactiful is safe when taken as instructed and with the approval of your doctor. Before you purchase Lactiful, you should be aware that you should not take Lactiful if you are pregnant, have asthma or diabetes, have low blood pressure, have lupus, have epilepsy, or if you have any allergies to any plants in the daisy family.

What’s in Lactiful?

Lactiful is quite proud of its list of ingredients. So proud, in fact, that their blend is kept a big secret. I think that’s a bit weird, personally, but luckily Lactiful IS willing to tell us what ingredients are in each dose. This list includes alfalfa, anise seed, blessed thistle, fennel seed, goat’s rue, marshmallow root, and nettle leaf.

Does Lactiful contain the best ingredients?

The eight herbs in Lactiful are widely used by moms and generally considered safe. Like our homepage states, the herbs to look for in products like Lactiful are fenugreek, milk thistle, raspberry leaf, nettle, blessed thistle, goat’s rue, and alfalfa. Lactiful clearly got its ingredients right!

In particular, some ingredients that make Lactiful unique are fennel, goat’s rue, and marshmallow root.

The seeds of the fennel plant are what we’re interested in. These seeds promote your milk ejection reflex. When your baby latches on, you want to provide milk for him or her immediately, and fennel can help you do that.

Marshmallow root, although not a galactagogue, helps you by allowing your body to more fully absorb the other healthy herbs in Lactiful. However, marshmallow root can also help you absorb any other medication you might be taking, so be cautious and speak with your doctor if you are taking medications in addition to Lactiful.

Goat’s rue, another great herb in Lactiful, not only helps you produce milk, it may also increase your breast size!

How much is Lactiful?

One bottle of Lactiful costs $97, although there is a significant discount if you buy three or more bottles. Lactiful offers a “buy two, get one free” deal. Remember, one bottle contains 300 tablets, but a daily dose is 15 tablets, so one bottle supplies you with about three week’s worth of pills.

Overall rating of Lactiful

Lactiful has one of the most impressive ingredient lists that I have seen when it comes to products that increase breast milk production. Lactiful has eight great herbs that have all been tried and true to help nursing moms.

However, I have a few problems with Lactiful. First, the price is quite high. Paying almost a hundred dollars for a bottle that will not even last a month is way too steep for me. Secondly, the amount of pills you have to take a day is a bit ridiculous. Personally, I don’t particularly like taking more than one or two pills a day, but with Lactiful, you have to take 15(!) each day. Lastly, although Lactiful contains great ingredients, they come in tablet form. When I buy pills, I always make sure to buy capsules. Tablets are very hard for your body to break down, making it harder for your body to absorb all those healthy ingredients. If you’re going to spend a lot of money on a product, you want to make sure that you are getting the full benefits of the ingredients.

Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers is an all organic, herbal tea meant for nursing mothers who would like to increase their supply of breast milk. Like most herbal treatments, results are often hard to predict or guarantee. Some mothers may notice a great increase in milk production, while others may not see much of a change. It is important to remember that the claims made by Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers are not evaluated by the FDA.

Still, after all of those disclaimers, Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers contains herbs that have been used for generations by moms all over the world. Although you need to talk to your doctor before beginning to take this product or any other herbal remedy, there are no overtly dangerous ingredients in Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers.

What’s in Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers?

Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers contains five herbs: blessed thistle, fennel seeds, fenugreek seeds, anise, and alfalfa. These herbs, known as galactagogues, can help you to produce more breast milk. Although researchers and herbalists may disagree on the specifics of why these herbs work the way they do, most agree that they can produce results when taken correctly.

Many of these herbs not only help you produce more milk, they also treat other problems that you may experience as a new mom. For example, blessed thistle acts as a breast milk stimulant, but also treats upset stomachs, indigestion, constipation, and gas. Similarly, anise can be used to treat colic and other stomach ailments, as well as to increase lactation.

Fennel seed may work because its phytoestrogens work like the hormones already found in your body. Fennel has been taken by nursing moms since ancient times, and it one of the most common herbs found in products that increase breast milk production. Fenugreek works like fennel, possibly using hormones to produce more breast milk.

Does Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers contain the best ingredients?

All of the ingredients in Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers are 100% certified organic, meaning that the herbs are grown without any exposure to toxic pesticides or fertilizer.

How much is Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers?

One bag of Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers costs $24.95.

Overall rating of Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers

Overall, Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers contains some healthy and powerful herbs that definitely have the ability to make a difference for you and your baby. I really appreciate Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers’s dedication to using only organic products.

However, I do have a few problems with Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers. Probably the most glaring issue is taste! In my opinion, Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers tastes pretty terrible. Although I enjoy other kinds of herbal teas, I could barely get down a cup of Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers. After one cup, I knew there was no way that I could drink it every day, no matter how much of a difference it made to my breast milk production. I quickly decided to switch to a capsule that contained the same healthy herbs and I’m much happier.

Of course, the decision is up to you. If Sacred Tea for Nursing Mothers works for you – great! If not, I encourage you to take a look at our list of 2011′s Top Performing Products.

Before answering this question, it’s important to discuss what NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin is and what it isn’t. Specifically, NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin is NOT a product meant to increase breast milk production. However, we are reviewing it on this site because it is a post-natal multivitamin, meant to be taken by breastfeeding moms.

So to answer the question, NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin does work as a vitamin that supplies healthy nutrients for you and for your breastfeeding baby, but does not actually increase the amount of milk that you produce.

What’s in NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin?

Each dose of NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin contains vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D3, vitamin E, vitamin K1, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin B12, biotin, pantothenic acid, calcium, iron, phosphorus, iodine, magnesium, zinc, selenium, copper, manganese, chromium, molybdenum, microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, croscarmellose sodium, and silicon dioxide.

Does NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin contain the best ingredients?

NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin contains a lot of great ingredients that may sound familiar to you. Many of the vitamins and minerals in NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin are also commonly found in prenatal vitamins.

NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin claims that taking this vitamin can help reduce stress, fatigue, hair loss, and hormonal imbalance. While NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin is far from a miracle drug, many of the ingredients in NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin can help you maintain good health while breast feeding.

Specifically, the B vitamins in NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin can help your mental stability, help your body maintain stable blood sugar levels, and help your baby’s brain develop. Vitamins A,C,D, and E can help your immune system, and even have anti-aging abilities, possibly even preventing wrinkles!

How much is NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin?

One bottle of NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin costs $27.50, although there are some special deals when you purchase more than one bottle (two bottles for $26.25 each and three bottles for $23.16 each).

Overall rating of NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin

NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin contains some really great ingredients that will definitely help you and your baby maintain good health.

That being said, I’m not sure that there is that big of a difference between taking NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin and taking a regular multivitamin. Any good multivitamin should supply you with most of the ingredients found in NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin. You should also note that although NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin contains calcium, there is only 100mg in each dose. You will need much more calcium than that while breastfeeding, so make sure that you take a secondary supplement or get plenty of calcium in your diet.

My other problem with NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin is that it comes in tablet form. When I take vitamins, I always make sure that they are in capsule form. Tablets are harder for your body to break down, and thus make it more difficult for your body to absorb all the nutrients contained within.

Ultimately, it’s up to you and your doctor to decide whether or not you should take NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin. If you think that NuMOM Breastfeeding Multivitamin isn’t right for you, then I encourage you to take a look at our list of 2011′s Top Performing Products.

Does Nursing Time Tea work?

Nursing Time Tea provides nursing moms with five herbs that are meant to increase breast milk and relieve digestive discomfort. Like many herbal treatments, results may vary, but when taken as instructed, it’s quite possible that Nursing Time Tea may help you to produce the milk that your baby needs.

What’s in Nursing Time Tea?

Nursing Time Tea combines 5 herbs: fennel seed, goat’s rue, blessed thistle, alfalfa, and anise seed. Nursing Time Tea also contains lemon verbena for flavoring, giving the whole beverage a vague citrus flavor.

Like our homepage says – the herbs that help increase breast milk production are fenugreek, milk thistle, raspberry leaf, nettle, blessed thistle, goat’s rue, and alfalfa.

In this case, Nursing Time Tea contains three of these herbs. Although not endorsed specifically by our website, it’s possible that fennel seed and anise seed may also aid you on your journey towards successful lactation.

While all may improve prolactin levels, fennel seed, blessed thistle, and anise seed also work together to treat gas, colic, and other gastrointestinal problems. When you’re breastfeeding, the last thing you want is a colicky baby or stomach problems of your own. This tea should help you.

Does Nursing Time Tea contain the best ingredients?

Nursing Time Tea contains six herbs that are full of health benefits. Most women report some kind of an improvement after drinking this tea. In particular, goat’s rue, blessed thistle, and alfalfa are three herbs that I trust when it comes to increasing breast milk production – three herbs that can be found in Nursing Time Tea.

How much is Nursing Time Tea?

Nursing Time Tea comes in loose-leaf form and one bag (roughly a month’s worth) will cost you $14.95. Purchasing multiple bags will earn you multiple discounts, with two bags costing $28.95, and three bags $39.95.

Overall Rating of Nursing Time Tea

Although Nursing Time Tea contains five great herbs, I still have some problems with this product. For me, the biggest one is that Nursing Time Tea tastes terrible. Although not the worst tea I’ve had, it’s certainly not something I want to drink multiple times a day like the package says I should. Normally I drink my tea without milk or sugar, but with Nursing Time Tea I found myself piling more and more sugar into my cup to drown out the taste! Not something I want to be doing when I’m trying to maintain a healthy diet for me and my baby.

Furthermore, as a busy mom, I prefer tea that comes in tea bags instead of loose leaf tea. I have a mesh tea ball, but in my opinion, it’s a chore to clean.

I realize that my criticisms are mostly of a personal nature. If you like loose-leaf tea, and don’t mind a somewhat bitter taste in your herbal tea, than Nursing Time Tea may be right for you. For me, I prefer to take a capsule instead of brewing up and drinking tea that I don’t like.

If you decide that Nursing Time Tea isn’t right for you, I encourage you to take a look at our list of 2011′s Top Performing Products.

Like most herbal remedies, NuMOM Natural Milk Enhancer affects different people in different ways. In this case, NuMOM Natural Milk Enhancer uses two common and traditional herbs to help moms increase their breast milk production. These herbs have lactation factors in their fatty acids, which researchers believe may be why these herbs help. It’s also believed that these herbs can increase blood flow to the breasts, which may also aid in breastfeeding.
What’s in NuMOM Natural Milk Enhancer?

NuMOM Natural Milk Enhancer comes in capsule form and contains fenugreek seed powder, blessed thistle powder, rice flour, magnesium stearate, and gelatin capsule.
Does NuMOM Natural Milk Enhancer contain the best ingredients?

NuMOM Natural Milk Enhancer contains two herbs: fenugreek seed powder and blessed thistle powder.

Fenugreek seed powder is an herb used in both cooking and in medicinal herbal remedies. Fenugreek is often used as a digestive aid and can help relieve the symptoms of diarrhea and colic. Traditionally, this herb has been used by nursing mothers to help increase breast milk production and to help mothers recover from childbirth.

Similarly, blessed thistle powder has been used traditionally to treat gastrointestinal discomfort, but also to increase the production of breast milk. It is believed that blessed thistle works by triggering a reflex reaction that releases gastric juices. When applied directly to skin, blessed thistle powder acts as an astringent, relieving irritation

How much is NuMOM Natural Milk Enhancer?

One bottle of 90 capsules of NuMOM Natural Milk Enhancer costs $19.50 although there are discounts available for purchasing more than bottle. Recommended dosage of NuMOM Natural Milk Enhancer is up to six capsules a day, so one bottle would last about two weeks.
Overview of NuMOM Natural Milk Enhancer

NuMOM Natural Milk Enhancer uses two very common herbs to increase breast milk production. Fenugreek and blessed thistle have been used for a long time as a way to help new mothers. Although results always vary with herbal remedies, these two herbs stand a good chance of helping you to feed your new baby.

Personally, I also like that NuMOM Natural Milk Enhancer comes in capsule form. When I was nursing, I found it easier to take capsules than to take anything in tea or some other liquid form.

A daily dosage may be up to six capsules, which does sound a bit high, but is actually not that unusual when it comes to breast milk enhancement products.

My only criticism of NuMOM Natural Milk Enhancer is that it’s a bit light on actual herb content. Although fenugreek seed powder and blessed thistle powder are good options for mothers wishing to increase their breast milk production, I would have preferred to see more herbs included, or a higher content of the fenugreek and blessed thistle.

If you decide that NuMOM Natural Milk Enhancer is right for you – great! However, if you decide to continue to shopping, I recommend taking a look at our list of 2011′s Top Performing Products.

Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free) is an herbal remedy meant to increase a nursing mother’s milk production. Like many herbal remedies, results may vary from woman to woman. It is important to talk to your doctor and/or lactation specialist before taking Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free). There is a good chance that you are already producing plenty of milk for you baby. However, if you and your doctor agree that your baby could benefit from an increased supply of breast milk, then read on – I’ll help you figure out whether or not Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free) is right for you.

What’s in Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free)?

Each dose of Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free) contains fenugreek seed, blessed thistle, nettle, fennel seed, deionized water, and vegetable glycerin.

Motherlove makes two versions of basically the same product: Motherlove More Milk Plus and Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free). Predictably, the only difference in ingredients is that one contains alcohol, and one doesn’t. However, it is worth noting that Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free) contains smaller doses of herbs than Motherlove More Milk Plus. Both of these products are reviewed on our site – but the long and short of is that one smells bad because it contains alcohol, while the other one smells bad because it doesn’t contain enough good herbs per dose.

Does Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free) contain the best ingredients?

Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free) contains four trusted herbs that increase lactation: fenugreek seed, blessed thistle, nettle, and fennel seed. Each of these herbs has been used extensively to increase and improve a mother’s breast milk, as well as to treat many other conditions.

Although these herbs have been tested and are not dangerous, it is important to make sure that you don’t have any allergies to them. Discuss the specific herbs with your doctor, even if he or she has recommended that you take Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free) or a similar product.

You should also be aware that one of these herbs, fenugreek, may cause your sweat or urine to smell a bit like maple syrup. Some people think that the taste of Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free) resembles some kind of maple syrup. Personally, I didn’t think the smell or the taste of Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free) was as attractive as maple syrup, but my husband noticed that I (and my baby) did smell a bit like maple syrup after taking Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free).

How much is Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free)?

Prices vary depending on how much you buy. For a 2oz bottle, you will pay $20.95. For a 4oz bottle, you will pay $35.95, and for an 8oz bottle you will pay $54.95.

Overview of Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free)

In my opinion, Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free) got some things right and some things wrong. On the bright side, Motherlove More Milk Plus (alcohol free) contains four valuable herbs that can help a nursing mother produce more milk for her baby.

However, although this version doesn’t contain alcohol, it still smells and tastes terrible because it doesn’t contain enough herbs per dose.

If the smell and taste don’t bother you, then this could be the product for you. If not, check out our list of 2011′s Top Performing Products.

Motherlove More Milk Plus is an herbal supplement that comes in liquid form. To take it, you need to consume 1/4 tsp four times a day. Although you can take Motherlove More Milk Plus with a small amount of liquid, it is best to avoid liquids 15 minutes before and after taking it. When taken correctly, Motherlove More Milk Plus is meant to increase a mother’s production of breast milk.

What’s in Motherlove More Milk Plus?

Motherlove More Milk Plus contains fenugreek, blessed thistle, nettle, fennel seed, grain alcohol, deionized water, and vegetable glycerin.

Does Motherlove More Milk Plus contain the best ingredients?

Motherlove More Milk Plus does not contain any common allergens like milk, dairy, soy, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, or gluten. Each dose contains four organically grown herbs that have been used traditionally as galactagogues for many years.

The four ingredients to pay attention to in Motherlove More Milk Plus are the herbs: fenugreek, blessed thistle, nettle, and fennel seed.

Fenugreek is accepted as one of the more potent of the galactagoges. Multiple studies have supported fenugreek as an effective way to increase breast milk production, although, as is common with herbal remedies, results vary from person to person.

Blessed thistle can be a blessed relief to a mother that is having trouble producing enough breast milk. Not only can it increase breast milk flow, it might even boost your spirits!

Nettle is a nutritious herb containing iron, calcium, and folic acid. Nettle might even help your skin problems – even if you’re taking it for its effectiveness as a galactagogue.

Fennel seed, a common seasoning, also works to increase breast milk supply.

How much is Motherlove More Milk Plus?

A two-ounce bottle of Motherlove More Milk Plus is $19.95, a four-ounce bottle is $33.95, and an eight-ounce bottle is $49.95. Since you need to take Motherlove More Milk Plus four times a day, one two-ounce bottle would provide you with about a 15 day supply.

Overview of Motherlove More Milk Plus

Like many herbal supplements, Motherlove More Milk Plus has its ups and downs. Motherlove More Milk Plus uses four well-known and trusted herbs that have long been considered galactagogues. I love that Motherlove More Milk Plus is organic and vegetarian as well.

However, Motherlove More Milk Plus is not a perfect product. Since it contains alcohol, it has a very harsh smell that frankly just made me too nauseous to swallow it down. Taking just 1/4 of a teaspoon a day four times a day was way too much for me. Also, it’s hard to remember to not drink anything 15 minutes before or after taking Motherlove More Milk Plus. Put simply, Motherlove More Milk Plus did not really work for me. I usually prefer to take my supplements in a capsule form, and if possible I like supplements that you only need to take once or twice a day.

As aways, it is up to your personal preferences and needs, and the opinion of your doctor to decide whether or not Motherlove More Milk Plus is right for you. If not, check out our list of 2011′s Top Performing Products.

Like their name suggests, Motherlove More Milk Plus capsules come in capsule form, and are meant to increase the milk supply of nursing mothers by using herbal remedies.

What’s in Motherlove More Milk Plus capsules?

Motherlove More Milk Plus capsules contain fenugreek seed, blessed thistle, nettle leaf, fennel seed, non-GMO soy lecithin, coconut oil, and vegetable cellulose.

Do Motherlove More Milk Plus capsules contain the best ingredients?

Nursing mothers with allergies will be happy to find out that Motherlove More Milk Plus capsules do not contain alcohol, milk, dairy, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, or gluten.

Motherlove More Milk Plus capsules DO contain three herbs to promote lactation: blessed thistle, nettle leaf, and fennel seed.

Although in ancient times blessed thistle was used to fight off evil spirits, today it is used to encourage milk flow in nursing mothers. Although some nursing mothers may report initial nausea when taking blessed thistle, it is not a dangerous herbal supplement when taken in moderation.

Nettle leaf, a plant full of vitamins A and C, chrolophyll, calcium, and fiber, can sting you if you accidentally walk through it, but taken as an herbal supplement, it might help you to increase your supply of breast milk.

Fennel seed was originally named after the Greek word for “marathon” and might be able to help you succeed in the race to provide enough milk for your baby. Fennel seed works similarly to estrogen to promote breast function. Not only that, fennel seed is frequently used to treat colic in babies, which certainly can’t hurt!

How much are Motherlove More Milk Plus capsules?

You can purchase 60 Motherlove More Milk Plus capsules for $23.95 or 120 Motherlove More Milk Plus capsules for $41.95. Remember, however, that you need to take four capsules per day (or six capsules per day if you weigh more than 175lbs). Therefore, one bottle of 60 capsules would only supply you for 15 days.

Overview of Motherlove More Milk Plus capsules

As always with herbal remedies, results may vary greatly from woman to woman. The only way to be really sure if Motherlove More Milk Plus capsules are right for you is to talk to your doctor and give them a try!

That being said, it’s important to remember that most mothers DO produce enough milk for their babies. However, in rare cases, nursing mothers can benefit from taking a supplement like Motherlove More Milk Plus capsules.

In general, I give Motherlove More Milk Plus capsules a slightly above-average rating for using three different herbs and for coming in capsule form. When I was pregnant, and later when I was nursing, capsules were the only kind of medication or supplement I could take. Teas, liquids, and tablets just did not work for me. However, I think that taking 4-6 capsules is a bit much. As I’m sure you know, the life of a nursing mother is very busy, very stressful, and your body may be responding differently to things that used to be easy for you.

If you think that Motherlove More Milk Plus capsules are what you need – good luck to you! If not, check out our list of 2011′s Top Performing Products.

What is Nursing Blend?

Nursing Blend is a product made for breastfeeding mothers. Each dose of two capsules contains vitamins, minerals, herbs, and galactagogues (ingredients that increase the flow of a mother’s milk).

What’s in Nursing Blend?

Nursing Blend contains vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D3, vitamin E, vitamin K, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, biotin, pantothenic acid, calcium, iron, iodine, magnesium, zinc, selenium, copper, manganese, and chromium. Nursing Blend’s proprietary blend contains fenugreek, fennel seed, coriander seed, anise seed, chamomile and vervain.

Does Nursing Blend contain the best ingredients?

Nursing Blend contains fenugreek, an herb that is found in many Indian dishes. Fenugreek is widely considered one of the most reliable and safe ways to increase breast milk production.

Fennel, a licorice flavored herb, is also generally considered to be a galactagogue, although many herbalists use it to treat stomach ailments. Still, it certainly can’t hurt you or your baby, and may even relieve the symptoms of colic.

Nursing Blend also contains coriander seed. Although coriander is a common seasoning and may help stomach problems, not very many studies have been done regarding coriander and breastfeeding. It’s probably a good idea to discuss coriander (and all other herbal remedies you may want to try) with your doctor before taking Nursing Blend or any other breast milk product.

Anise, another ingredient in Nursing Blend, has also been used to treat colic, and is a common flavoring agent in many dishes. However, like coriander, it has not been tested extensively with regards to breastfeeding. Although anise has been used traditionally as a galactagogue, it has also been used as a way to induce abortions.

Chamomile is an herb that you are probably familiar with since it’s one of the most common herbal teas available. Chamomile is a safe herb to take, and may help you to relax.

Vervain is another “jack-of-all-trades” herb that has been used to treat everything from kidney stones to headaches. Although it has been used as a galactagogue traditionally, its use by breastfeeding mothers is a bit controversial. Some medical professionals think it should be avoided, while others believe it to be safe. This is another herb that you should discuss with your doctor before taking.

How much is Nursing Blend?

One bottle (a one month supply) of Nursing Blend costs $17.95, although the Nursing Blend website offers discounts for buying more than one bottle. If you buy two bottles, the individual price goes down to $16.98, and if you buy three bottles, each bottle is only $15.98.

Overview of Nursing Blend

Nursing Blend is a bit unique in its field because it actually resembles a prenatal vitamin. Its inclusion of B vitamins, folate, iron, and calcium make it more than just a way to increase your breast milk production – it’s also a multivitamin! Since prenatal vitamins are important to take before, during, and after pregnancy, I appreciate a breast milk enhancement drug that includes all the nutritious vitamins and minerals that are so important for you and for the development of your baby.

However, I’m not ready to rate Nursing Blend as a top performing product yet. I would like to see some more research done on some of the herbs that are included in Nursing Blend’s proprietary blend. In my opinion, there is not enough evidence that coriander, anise, or vervain have more positive effects than negative ones.

As always, it is up to you and your doctor to decide if Nursing Blend is right for you. If not, I recommend looking at our list of 2011′s Top Performing Products.
